In the earliest years of recording. A Musician would have to travel to New York. Eventually the industry noticed the popularity of rural music and headed south to attract local performers. Studios were set up in the South. This book focuses on the earliest recording sessions by rural musicians at local studios. The sessions trace the progression of Country Music from archaic ‘Hill’ ballads to the Bluegrass era. Included are early fiddlers. the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers sessions. Early Bluegrass and Country groups and vocalists prior to WW II.  Sessions are listed chronologically by Studio and include a comprehensive listing of the output of not only larger record companies but also obscure sessions. Minor labels and the expansion of this music into Canada as identified on the following labels, Aurora, Minerva, Sterling ,etc.A useful 'handbook' for the collector of old 78rm records of County Music historian.
